Equipment UMSI utilizes the vacuum excavation methods of the System 3 Vacuum Excavation Machine and the System 4000 Vac Master by Vacmaster of Denver, CO. The System 3 & 4000 are the industries leading machines for safe and effective utility locating. These machines have the capability to use either high-pressure air or water to expand and break up soils adjacent to a given utility and a powerful vacuum to remove these spoils. The use of the high-pressure air is totally non-destructive and will not damage even the most delicate utilities. The air lance option of the Systems 3 & 4000 produces 180 PSI @ 165 CFM. If required, the water option produces 3000 PSI of pressure @ 3 GPM. The vacuum portion of the Systems 3 & 4000 can obtain 15” HG @ 1,000 CFM and allows a holding canister of 580 gal. All of this equipment is truck mounted, that allows easy and safe access to most locations. It has been determined that these sizes of trucks mounted vacuum excavation machine is the optimum size for this type of utility locating operation. The vacuum excavation equipment has been fitted with cold weather options for year round work. This option includes the mounting of an electric generator and tank heaters to maintain a heated water system for continual winter work. This equipment is very useful for a project where cold weather locating operations are anticipated. UMSI also utilizes the state of the art digital equipment and portable computer systems.
