Subsurface Utility Engineering Field Technician

Utility Mapping Services, P.C. (UMS) is seeking a motivated candidate to fill a position as a SUE Field Technician. Utility Mapping Services, Inc. is a small veteran owned business formed in 2002 specifically to address Subsurface Utility Engineering (S.U.E.) as a rigorous engineering discipline in accordance with ASCE 38 standards. This position offers an exciting opportunity to be trained in the art of investigating utility infrastructure using surface geophysics, via multiple highly specialized tools including EM Pipe and Cable Locators, Ground Penetrating Radar, GPS Survey, LIDAR, TEDEM, MAG equipment and more. As a SUE Field Technician, you will have the opportunity to work collaboratively with engineering surveyors, engineers and other utility technicians to identify, designate and map complex subsurface utility installations through review of utility records, use of shallow earth geophysical methods and a knowledge of utility system design and configuration. As a part of the UMS team you will be participating in our commitment to the advancement of Subsurface Utility Engineering through creativity innovation and the continual pursuit of improvement. With the support of highly motivated team members, we strive to reduce the risks associated with above and below ground utility infrastructure not only for our clients, but ultimately for our most important stakeholders, the public.
Pay: $21.00 – $26.00 per hour

UMS maintains offices and performs services throughout the United States. While this position will be based out of the Southwest Washington area, successful candidates must be willing to travel in support of project work throughout the country, and in limited cases, internationally.. The standard work week is Monday – Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm, however longer hours and overtime (including shifts in excess of 12 hours, weekend and night work) will be required as needed. Candidates can expect to travel up to 75% of the time in support of project work nationwide. While in travel status, employees are provided a daily periderm in addition to company paid lodging and transportation.

Qualifications

As a SUE Field Technician, a successful candidate will have the opportunity to work in varied and dynamic environment including both office and field settings (85% field work, 15% office) in support of project work nationwide

- – Must be able to operate tools designed for the removal of manhole/storm sewer lids/access points

- – Must be able to operate EM pipe and cable locating equipment in conjunction with marking paint applicator

- – Must be able to operate GNSS RTK GPS survey equipment

- – Must be able to perform repetitive physical task

- – OSHA certification preferred but not required

- – Confined Space Entry certification preferred but not required

- – Must be available for weekend and night work as needed

Office and computer requirements include:
